The card game is a perfect boredom buster if you just want to de-stress. The name of the game is based on the Spanish word: One. This is so because the player must shout “UNO!” whenever there is only one remaining card. Though shouting your nearing victory is fun, the action underlies in the exchange of action cards present on the field. Prepare your Skips, Reverses, and Wildcards and be the one to yell “UNO”!

Game objectives

UNO Online starts in 40 seconds. The game is finished in three rounds or when the time is up, whichever comes first. You have two opponents for this round: Signorina Carota and Senor Ordonez. Each of you will pick one card initially. The one who got the highest value card will be the one who will start the game. Each of you will then be given 7 cards to play. You must get rid of all the card you have in your hand before your opponents do. When it’s your turn, pick the card that matches the color, number or symbol on the discard pile.

Just like the original UNO game, Uno Online is played using a deck of 108 cards in four colors: Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. They are numbered from 0 through 9: 19 blue, 19 green, 19 red, and 19 yellow. The playing colored cards also include eight “Skip” cards, eight “Draw Two” cards and eight “Reverse” cards. These are two in every color. There will also be 4 Wildcards and 4 Wildcard Draw Four cards.

Game Buttons

Uno Online features many different and convenient buttons. Below is a list that explains these.

Uno Online gameplay

Draw Card Button

If you don’t have a card that matches the last card on the discard pile, you can draw a card. If the card you’ve drawn matches the pile, you can hand it over. If not, you’ll just lose your turn and it would then proceed to the next player. You can also draw a card if you don’t want to discard any of your on-deck cards.

Pass Button

If you don’t want to play the card you’ve picked from the Draw Card Pile, you can click press the pass button and end your turn without discarding any card.

Uno Button

When you have only one card left you must immediately click on the UNO button. Failure to do so will result in having 2 additional penalty cards from the Draw Pile.

Action Cards

The next person to play will be skipped or will lose his/her turn. This can only be played with a matching color or symbol.

With the reverse card, the turns will just be reversed. If the game is the game is in a counterclockwise direction, the game will be in the clockwise rotation immediately after this card is played. This would mean that whoever played before you will again have the turn to play and will be continued by who’s next in the reversed direction. This can only be played with a matching color or symbol.

Draw 2

The next person will draw 2 cards and will lose a turn in the process. This can only be played with a matching color or symbol.

The person that will be playing the wild card will have the decision to choose any color, even the current color. A wild card can be played at any time even if he has a playing card on his hand.

Wild Draw 4

As the wild card, the player can choose any color he or she wants. The next player has to draw 4 cards and will lose a turn. The card can only be played if the player doesn’t have any playing card that can match the last color on the discard pile. If the player holds a matching color or playable action cards, the player can be penalized.

Card Value

Each card has a corresponding value. It is important to lose all high valued ones before the game ends. When a player no longer has any card, the player will receive all the points from the opponents’ cards.

  • Skip – 20 Points
  • Reverse – 20 Points
  • Draw 2 – 20 Points
  • Wild – 50 Points
  • Wild Draw 4 – 50 Points

The numbered cards have points equal to their number.

Strategy and Tips

  • Prioritize losing the high-value cards when the game is starting to end. Discard Wild Draw Four Cards as soon as possible. You can only play this card when you don’t have any number or color card that can be played. It will also cost you 50 points if you still have it at the end of the round.
  • Observe the colors your opponents do not have and use them to your advantage. Watch closely at what playing colors they are drawing.
  • Use Reverse and Skip cards carefully. You can discard them as soon as you can but you can also use it to win the game. Remember, this is not just a game of emptying your own cards. This is a game of doing it first while preventing opponents to empty theirs.
  • You can hold the Wild cards if you can. This can be played whenever you want and can definitely help you in sticky situations or when an opponent only has one card.
  • Discard the many cards you hold in one color. Play the highest number first before the low numbered cards. Don’t empty your cards by color. Change colors if you can and always see to it that you have extra colored cards when the colors are changed again.

The graphics of Uno Online are simple and colorful in nature. It may be more cartoonish than expected. Opponents also have weird names. The rest are not distracting and you have all the gaming functions that you would need. You can also see toggle buttons on the bottom for turning the music, sound or game off if desired. Kids will find the graphic presentation attractive while adults would just be okay with it as long as it has the functionality that is needed.

The game music is a bit calming. The kind of music that allows you to not be pressured on making your move immediately. It’s quite relaxing, to be honest, compared to the energetic ones on other games that also boost your adrenaline. Those are the types that encourage you to make your move fast. This is not. And I like it. The sound effects, on the other hand, do not match the games musical arrangement. It’s lively, loud and could be a bit surprising as it has a louder volume compared to the background music. The voice generated “UNO” isn’t that enthusiastic either.

Fun Factor

Uno ultimately is a well-loved game no matter the gaming format. It is a game of luck combined with strategy. UNO Online is perfect for games who have a shorter attention span. But don’t let the quick gaming format fool you. Before you know it, you’ve already spent hours trying to win.

The game’s loading might take a while and you’ll be dealing with bot players which are very hard to beat. Stay patient and strategize. You might also encounter difficulty playing another set and may need to just refresh the entire page. At the end of the day, win or lose, just relax and have fun
